Bookmates Alphabet Soup in Motion

Bookmates Alphabet Soup in Motion is a six-week program for parents (caregivers) and their preschool children ages 2 to 5 years that focuses on active play, literacy and family eating principles. This program was developed jointly by Bookmates Inc., Winnipeg in motion, and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority with help fom four parent child centres and a parent supported advisory committee. The program development was funded by a grant from The Winnipeg Foundation.

Bookmates Alphabet Soup in Motion is based on Bookmates' award winning Bookmates Alphabet Soup program with a physical activity twist. The program engages families in active play concepts through the love of reading, rhyme and song with an emphasis on family eating.

Bookmates Alphabet Soup in Motion is based on the family literacy model that ensures that families can do all of the activities at home together without special equipment. The Inside, Outside, by My Side activities encourage families to be active together.

Parents learn more about their child's physical development with activities that support the child's abilities and sense of self. Parents also realize that there are many opportunities to be physically active themselves in a variety of family activities.

It is recommended that two people from each organization attend the training unless there is already a trained person who will co-facilitate the program. This program has a parent and child together time as well as a fully developed adult module running at the same time as the children's module.

This is a two-day training.
